# Your first task

> Start a task, answer its agent, and merge its pull request

A task is one piece of work, from the sentence that starts it to its merged pull request.

## Start a task

Press <kbd>⌘N</kbd>, pick a repository, and describe the change as you would in a GitHub issue.

![Vespin's Home: New task's message box on acme/relay, the Inbox items waiting on you, and recent tasks](https://mintcdn.com/stage-a8145d8f/9Z0l--Q8WTO8Ro1u/images/home.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=9Z0l--Q8WTO8Ro1u\&q=85\&s=f77998ef22184644a344ad2899e12af7)

The agent works in a cloud sandbox with its own checkout of the repository, not in your local checkout. It writes the task's description on the **Overview** tab as it goes.

## Answer in the Inbox

When the agent needs a decision, a to-do, or your review, it posts a thread to your Inbox (<kbd>⇧⌘I</kbd>). Press <kbd>1</kbd>–<kbd>9</kbd> to choose an option, or <kbd>R</kbd> to reply.

## Review and merge

The agent opens a pull request as you. On the task's **Pull request** tab, **Chapters** splits the diff into sections, each with a summary. The agent answers review comments and fixes failing checks until you merge.
